Morshead Park Stadium

The new Ballarat Regional Football Stadium started to take shape from late May and will be completed by the end of 2014. The Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility is an Association football-specific stadium in Redan, a suburb immediately to the south of central Ballarat. It is the home of the Ballarat Red Devils, who play in the National Premier Leagues Victoria, the second tier of Australian football, after the A-League.

Already the synthetic pitches has been completed as has a grass pitch. During 2013, the City of Ballarat Council matched a Federal Government investment of $2.675 million announced by then Prime Minister of Australia Julia Gillard in June of that year in a major upgrade of Morshead Park with a view to host training for National Teams in the 2015 Asian Cup, including new grandstands, lights and returfing the field to form the Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility.

The new $5.5 million stadium will consist of 500 under cover seats, a 175 seat function room, a 125 seat members bar, 6 change rooms, 2 official rooms as well as a food kiosk, players race and store rooms, there will also be office space for the Red Devils.

The Ballarat Red Devils played their first game in the stadium on the 3rd of May 2014, losing 1-2 to South Melbourne FC in the NPLV, although the main grandstand was a temporary one. South Melbourne player Milos Lujic scored the inaugural goal in the facility.On the 9th of May 2014, Premier of Victoria Denis Napthine announced that the facility would be hosting the Bahrain national football team for a sixteen day training camp prior to the Asian Cup.

The building is designed with natural ventilation incorporating thermal chimneys utilising the thermal stack effect, combined with passive underfloor heating and high level extraction to cool air in summer and provide warm fresh air in winter. High level extended eaves to reduce heat load on the building. Locally sourced materials, low energy light fittings, locally manufactured highest performing low VOC paint, durable finishes for lower maintenance and longevity, carpet with 40% recycled content and certified cradle to cradle 100% recyclable with an adhesive minimisation installation system, seating made of recycled plastic & timber, shading to external glazing. Designed with recycled timber cladding as shading device.”
